A new mental health unit at Wrexham Maelor Hospital could be on the cards according to the BBC.
The BBC News website reported today that plans are being created to replace the old Llwyn y Groes mental health unit that was recommended for closure and replace it with a £15 million upgrade – although it was reported that it could be several years before the money is made available.
Estimations for the completion of the new unit stretch as far into the future as 2008/9.
Andy Scotson, the spokesperson for the North East Wales NHS Trust, said: “Over the past 10 or 15 years there have been a lot of changes in mental health care and we recognise that the present facilities at Llwyn y Groes fall short of what we would like to provide.”
