Early Day Motion gains cross party support

An Early Day Motion was tabled in Westminster this week asking for the Government to reassess the Draft Mental Health Bill.

The motion, tabled on the 6th February and entitled ‘Better Mental Health Act Campaign’, has gained cross party support and includes signatures from two members of the Joint Committee on the Bill.

The motion reads: “Unless the measures proposed in the draft Bill are significantly altered as proposed by the Committee, the resultant new Mental Health Act will seriously restrict the rights, choices and wellbeing of people with mental distress and force too many people in compulsory treatment.”

The Mental Health Alliance is asking for people to get in contact with their MPs and urge them to sign the motion.
