£30 million to improve south Wales mental health facilities

Health and Social Services Minister Dr Brian Gibbons has today announced a £30 million programme to improve mental health facilities in the Bro Morgannwg NHS Trust area, covering Neath-Port Talbot, Bridgend and the western Vale of Glamorgan. The money will go towards a number of services including new day care centres and care facilities which should be open by summer 2009.

Speaking about the revised National Service Framework for Adult Mental Health Services launched last October, Dr Gibbons said: “Key to the action plan and the NSF was the requirement to close the large Victorian institutions and replace them with accommodation that is fit for purpose.”
