WAG to host five events across Wales on interim CPA guidance

The Welsh Assembly Government is to run a series of five events designed to hear the views and thoughts of mental health and social care users, providers, advocates and carers on the newly issued CPA interim guidance.

The Minister for Health and Social Services Edwina Hart AM agreed to issue interim CPA Guidance on July 14th. It was issued to Local Health Boards and Local Authorities in Wales to advise them on how they should proceed in relation to service planning under the CPA.

This guidance is ‘interim’ in nature because although the Welsh Assembly Government says it is timely and appropriate for new guidance to be developed now, they also have to take into account the new legislative proposals relating to CPA that are currently being considered by the National Assembly for Wales in the Mental Health (Wales) Measure.

The Welsh Assembly Government expects to publish the final guidance in early 2011 by which time the Mental Health Measure will have been made.

The first step in this process is the following five events which will take views on the new guidance;

• 17 August (10am to 3.30pm) – WAG Offices, ECM2, Port Talbot
• 19 August (10am to 3.30pm) – WAG Offices, Aberystwyth
• 23 August (10am to 3.30pm) – WAG Offices, Cardiff
• 25 August (10am to 3.30pm) – WAG Offices, Llandudno Junction
• 26 August (10am to 3.30pm) – WAG Offices, Merthyr Tydfil

Each event will begin with an overview of the guidance before turning into workshops to discuss the guidance in more detail. Refreshments, including a light lunch, will be provided.

Whilst these events are free to attend the number of places available is limited; if you wish to reserve your place please contact: joanna.north@wales.gsi.gov.uk.
