“Keep a check on promises made about mental health spending”

Hafal’s Service User Champion has urged AMs and all those interested in protecting mental health services to ‘keep a check on promises made about mental health spending’.

Writing in her monthly Western Mail column Sue stated that although the Welsh Assembly Government has made a commitment to protect mental health services in its Draft Budget, Local Health Boards and local authorities will need to be held to account.

Sue writes: “It is often contentious to seek protection of one area of public spending over another.

“I think it’s right to argue the priority of people with a serious mental illness both on moral grounds – they are among the most vulnerable – and for the simple reason their dependence on public sector funding is much greater than other people’s.”
