‘meic’, Wales’ nationwide advocacy and advice helpline for children and young people is to extend its opening hours to 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Commenting on the service’s extension Deputy Minister for Children in Wales, Huw Lewis AM said:”Since ‘meic’ was launched in May 2010 over 4,000 children and young people from across Wales have contacted the helpline to ask for help and advice about a range of issues.

“Topics that advisors have received calls on include family issues, bullying, friendships, financial issues and exam stress. This shows the importance of having a service like ‘meic’ in Wales, that children and young people know they can go to whenever they need it.

“By extending the operating hours to 24 hours, 7 days a week we are making sure that children and young people can get around the clock support via phone, email, text or instant messaging.

“Everyday children and young people in Wales are using ‘meic to help build their confidence and overcome the issues they are facing. I would encourage anyone who feels that they need somebody on their side or has any problems, however big or small, to give ‘meic’ a call.”
