“The forgotten young carers” – a programme examining what it’s like being a young person who cares for a parent with bipolar disorder is available to view online.

“Inside Out”, which can be seen until February 27th, follows the story of Imogen, a 16-year-old who cares for her mother in Tynemouth, Tyne and Wear.

When Imogen was nine her mother was sectioned and later diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. Imogen became a carer for her mum but for years she never told anyone about what she called “her little secret”.

Imogen struggled for six years without any support before discovering a young carers’ group in North Shields which has changed her life.
