The Revised Mental Health Act 1983 Code of Practice for Wales becomes extant today. As well as providing guidance for professionals, the Code of Practice also provides information for patients, their families and carers.
Accessible information booklets for detained patients, informal patients, nearest relatives and friends and family are also available.
The Code was revised in 2016 to take account of stakeholders’ views during the Welsh Government’s consultation, as well as changes in the law and professional practice. The Welsh Government has published its response to the consultation exercise. The Code of Practice is effective from 3 October 2016. It has been prepared in accordance with section 118 of the Mental Health Act 1983.
