Criminal justice seminar will identify ways of supporting people with a mental illness

A criminal justice seminar which takes place in Llandrindod Wells later this week aims to identify practical ways to assist those with a serious mental illness who get caught up in the criminal justice system.

Run by Hafal in partnership with Hafal Crossroads, Bipolar UK, Diverse Cymru and CAIS, “Reducing Risk, Achieving Recovery” will have a special focus on experiences and ideas from users and carers and will be followed up with publication of an Action Plan aimed at improving policy and practice in this important area.

Hafal’s Criminal Justice Lead Lianne Martynski said: “The Seminar is part of our ‘Access to Justice’ Comic Relief-funded initiative, and a key event in our ‘Reducing Risk – Achieving Recovery’ action research project on mental health and criminal justice, which is led by campaigner Jo Roberts.

“At the seminar we’ll be announcing results from our summer-long survey and launching our new Interactive Criminal Justice Survival Guide.”

“Reducing Risk, Achieving Recovery” takes place in the Media Centre in Llandrindod Wells this Thursday (9th November).
