Social Care Wales launch new social care worker cards

Social Care Wales are today (Wednesday 15th April) launching a new social care worker card to help ensure that care workers are recognised as key workers across Wales.

This is a new scheme that helps identify social care workers and confirms they are key workers in fighting the current coronavirus pandemic.

Social care workers have previously reported it can be difficult for them to prove their identity with the police, when travelling from home to their work, and supermarkets, when trying to benefit from special shopping arrangements made for NHS staff and other key workers.

There is currently no single card that identifies social care workers as key workers so Social Care Wales have combatted this by developing the new social care worker cards at a time when it’s needed the most.

There are two forms of the card – there is a digital version and a physical card which is made of plastic. The digital version of the card will be available from Wednesday 15th April.

An e-mail will go out to all professionally regulated social care workers on Social Care Wales’ register on 15th April, introducing the card and providing them with instructions on how to download it onto their smartphone. The plastic cards will be posted to the registered workers when they are ready.
